Tampa Prep Video Production Students Create Professional Promotional Piece for Next Generation Ballet at the Straz Center
Tampa, Florida (PRWEB) February 03, 2016 -- Students enrolled in Video Production courses at Tampa Preparatory School have begun an exciting endeavor - filming professional videos for local businesses. Under the lead of Doug Fox, an experienced video professional who began teaching at Tampa Prep this year, students have the opportunity to work directly with a business to research, organize and create promotional videos. Each company then uses the videos on various platforms to promote their services and products.
The school is excited about the recent release of a video created by four Video Production students for the Next Generation Ballet (NGB) School at the Straz Center's Patel Conservatory. This project provided students a rare, real-world opportunity to work with a client on a video that will be used to advertise the company. Artistic Director of Next Generation Ballet Philip Neal expressed his gratitude. “Next Generation Ballet has been most fortunate to collaborate with the talented students of Tampa Prep, who produced a top-notch commercial for our dance program,” he said. “Under the direction of their remarkable teacher Doug Fox, these students conducted themselves with the utmost professionalism, filming and editing with impressive skill. I’d like to give a round of applause, as well as a debt of gratitude to these outstanding students with a very bright future.”
To begin the project, Tampa Prep students Jeremy Leeds, John Morrison, Ethan Davidoff and Ben Fox met with Mr. Neal to discuss his vision for the piece and what exactly he was looking for in the promotional video. After meeting with him, the students conducted their own research on NGB’s brand and evaluated which equipment and lighting would work best to capture ballet footage.
After thorough research, the students pitched their ideas to Next Generation Ballet. With the main objectives finalized, students began storyboarding the concept and participated in “Tech Scout” days where they toured the facilities to determine shooting locations, check lighting and test sound in different areas.
“Being able to produce a short two-minute video for the Next Generation Ballet allowed me to see into the professional world of commercials, said student Jeremy Leeds. “It was eye-opening to see how difficult it can be to condense hours of footage into such a short piece.”
The purpose of the piece was to advertise the success of the male dancers and feature the men’s dance program offered at NGB. This project allowed students to intensely collaborate with their client in a professional context. Under the guidance of Mr. Fox, the students spearheaded the project, working directly with NGB on the business transaction.
“Most students don’t get the chance to build a portfolio of ‘real world work’ until after their Masters Thesis, explained Doug Fox. “We are giving students the opportunity to build a great portfolio of work before they even enter college...and their work is amazing!”
The Video Production class currently has two more promotions lined up with other local businesses. This service is laying the groundwork for a much more expanded video production capability. Tampa Prep is proud to offer students these professional experiences as part of their education.
