Tampa Special Operations Charity among Nonprofits to Benefit from Chick-fil-A "Buy a Sandwich, Donate a Meal" Nationwide Promotion Next Week
Tampa, FL (PRWEB) March 01, 2014 -- The Special Operations Warrior Foundation, based in Tampa and one of the nation’s top nonprofits, has been selected as a beneficiary of a national Chick-fil-A fundraiser.
On March 6, Chick-fil-A restaurants across the U.S. will participate in a “Buy a Sandwich, Donate a Meal” promotion and donate proceeds to charities of their choice.
Dorothy and Bob Clifton, owners and operators of the Chick-fil-A on Bearss Avenue in Tampa, will donate one Chick-fil-A gift card to the SOWF for each sandwich meal purchased by drive-through customers March 6 from 10:30 a.m. to 10 p.m.
Founded in 1980, the SOWF provides funds for a post-secondary education to the surviving children of U.S. Army, Navy, Air Force and Marine Corps special operations troops killed in the line of duty. It is ranked among the top 1% of the approximately 7,000 American nonprofits monitored by leading watchdog group Charity Navigator, in recognition of its fiscal accountability and the percentage of funds allocated to programs.
To date, the SOWF has helped 240 scholarship recipients graduate from college, and has provided over $2 million in cash stipends to families of hospitalized special operators, so they can get to their loved ones’ bedside right away and cover immediate personal expenses.
The foundation currently funds college for 139 sons and daughters of special operations personnel who have lost their lives in service to our nation; and has pledged to provide a college education to an additional 650 children, from infants to high school seniors, who have lost a parent while serving in America’s Special Operations Forces.
For the Cliftons, choosing the SOWF was easy.
“Bob served in the Air Force for four years after graduating high school in the 1970s,” Dorothy says.
“We know that life in the military is always full of challenges, so when we found out that the Special Operations Warrior Foundation is based in Tampa and helps military families, we felt this promotion could benefit their organization.”
The SOWF will distribute the gift cards to scholarship recipients at colleges across the country, and to surviving spouses and children of fallen U.S. Special Operations warriors.
