Taps Mugadza’s Star on the Rise with Release of Evocative New Single
Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) September 09, 2017 -- Imminent R&B soul/pop star Taps Mugadza recently released an emotional new single called “Waiting for You.” The single is available on both iTunes and Spotify. Taps’ music, including the singles “What Have I Done?” and “I Wanna Hear Your Voice,” was featured on the top-rated show Criminal Minds. Additionally, his cover of the Adele song “Hello” has been viewed over 5 million times on YouTube.
Tapiwa Kudakwashe Mugadza, aka Taps, was raised in a children’s home in Harare, Zimbabwe, after being left on its doorstep at just 2 days old. “‘Waiting for You’ is about being dropped off at the orphanage and hoping that one day my parents would walk in through the doors to come and take me home,” noted Taps. “I was inspired to write the song because my producer came with a few lyric and melody ideas that later developed into this song.”
Taps spent his entire childhood at the Harare Children’s Home and his teen years at St. Joseph’s Orphanage. Most nights he would cry himself to sleep, and was so shy and frightened of others that he did not speak a word to anyone outside the orphanage until he was 15 years old.
However, at a very early age, Taps developed a love for music and discovered he was a natural musician. In fact, he taught himself to play the guitar and piano in only a week. Once he turned 18, Taps had to leave St. Joseph’s Orphanage. He moved from house to house staying with friends that had room to take him in. Even though he didn’t have much, Taps volunteered to dig wells in many of the impoverished villages of Zimbabwe with the organization ROCK of Africa. The head of the organization asked Taps what he wanted to do with his life, and his reply was, “I would love to study music.”
ROCK of Africa contacted a volunteer who had visited Zimbabwe from the U.S. and asked if Taps could stay with him and his family in California. The American volunteer agreed and would eventually “adopt” Taps and help him to achieve his dream, which included being accepted to the Musicians Institute in Hollywood, CA, where Taps eventually graduated with the school’s highest honor -- The Outstanding Artist Award.
Since graduating from the Musicians Institute, Taps has performed his song “Africa” in front of hundreds of people at the 2010 World Cup FIFA Fan Fest in South Africa, played at the legendary House of Blues and Whiskey-A-Go-Go on the famed Sunset Strip in Hollywood and performed in Las Vegas. Taps has also appeared live on Extra with Mario Lopez, as Extra’s “Featured New Artist.”
“It’s because of the hard road that I walked from an early age that I’m able to overcome the trials that life throws at me,” concluded Taps. “Now, I allow my heart to speak through my music when words fail.”
