Tariq Drabu Assures Patients that Dentists are Not as Scary as Expected with Help of Modern Medicine in 2014
(PRWEB) July 18, 2014 -- Tariq Drabu is a Manchester born and educated dentist and specialist oral surgeon. He was one of the youngest dentists to ever graduate in the United Kingdom at twenty one and then went on to work in busy dental hospitals throughout the United Kingdom and Saudi Arabia. He received his Fellowship in Dental Surgery at the Royal College of Surgeons and is now the owner of the successful Langley Dental Practice. Dr Drabu is also the Clinical Lead Dentist for the Oral Surgery Clinical Assessment and Treatment Services at NHS Heywood Middleton and Rochdale and is also an active tutor and mentor to postgraduate dentists in oral surgery at the UCLAN Dental Clinic in Preston.
Tariq Drabu was speaking about a recent article which was published on 2 July 2014 about dental phobias on a popular dental website. The full article can be read here.
Tariq Drabu said, “Two thousand people were asked if they are afraid of the dentist by the British Dental Health Foundation. The survey was carried out to determine who was more afraid of the dentist than the top ten phobias in the United Kingdom. Over thirty percent of those asked found the dentist more scary than interacting with strangers, twenty five percent feared the dentist more than spiders and flying insects and twenty four percent felt visiting the dentist was scarier than being ill.”
Tariq Drabu went on to say, “Dental phobia is a serious problem which results in patients not seeking the attention they need and deserve. Routine check-ups are ignored which can leave the patient in agony, only making the visit to the dentist more daunting. The good news for patients who are afraid of the dentist is that modern medicine has helped improve the techniques we use on our patients on a daily basis. Staff are also more understanding of phobias as it becomes a serious problem throughout the world.”
Tariq Drabu closed in saying, “The main reasons that patients are so afraid of dentists is needles and pain. Over thirty percent of the people asked why they are afraid of the dentist claimed they have a fear of needles with twenty five percent stating they were afraid the treatment would be painful. Modern medicine has enabled us to use drills which are quieter, the treatments are painless and we provide a relaxed environment with understanding staff to put the patient at ease before any treatment begins.”
