Tariq Drabu Encourages Patients to Use Electric Toothbrushes in 2014

He is one of the youngest dentists to ever graduate in the UK at twenty one before spending years working in busy dental hospitals in the UK and Saudi Arabia. On his return to the UK he received his Fellowship in Dental Surgery at the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh. Dr Drabu is now the owner of the successful Langley Dental Practice and is also the Clinical Lead Dentist for the Oral Surgery Clinical Assessment and Treatment Services at NHS Heywood Middleton and Rochdale. He also finds time to mentor and tutor postgraduate dentists in oral surgery at the UCLAN Dental Clinic in Preston.

Tariq Drabu said, “A study took place between 1964 and 2011 with over five thousand participants, which included adults and children. Out of the fifty six trials that took place it was determined that electric toothbrushes are more effective than manual toothbrushes.”
Tariq Drabu in Manchester went on to say, “It was determined that electric toothbrushes were more effective when it comes to reducing plaque and eliminating the risk of gingivitis, which is a gum disease found in patients throughout the United Kingdom. The results were determined over long and short term using with a twenty one percent reduction in plaque and an eleven percent reduction in gingivitis over a three month period using an electric toothbrush over a manual option.”
Tariq Drabu closed in saying, “The results showed that oscillating rotating electric toothbrush heads were a better option that offered the best results. At Langley Dental Practice we always ensure our patients are educated on the importance of oral health, which includes brushing for two minutes twice a day, flossing and using mouthwash. We will now be incorporating the importance of using an electric toothbrush into our discussions with patients to ensure they are able to eliminate plaque and reduce the risk of gingivitis effectively, as the biggest problem we face as dental professionals is that many of our patients don’t even realise they have gum disease until they visit our surgery for a check-up.”
