Tariq Drabu Urges Mouth Cancer Patients to Consult Their Doctors Quickly
(PRWEB) February 21, 2014 -- Tariq Drabu is a respected dentist and the owner of the popular Langley Dental Practice in Middleton, Manchester. He is also the renowned Clinical Lead Dentist for the Oral Surgery Clinical Assessment and treatment Services for NHS Heywood Middleton and Rochdale.
Tariq Drabu, the leading dentist was speaking recently in reference to an article published by the Dental Tribune website, within its UK dental news section. The article can be read here in full.
Tariq Drabu, dentist from Manchester said, “The report reveals that patients with mouth cancer are waiting for approximately a month after spotting symptoms before they consult their doctors. This is extremely alarming, since the sooner diagnoses and treatments are given, the greater the chances of survival. As dentists, we must do all we can to get the news to patients that immediate action is needed if they experience symptoms which suggest mouth cancer. It is clear to me that more education is needed so that people understand the importance of regular dental checks, and to the need to see a doctor on a regular basis. It is the only way we can ensure these terrible diseases are caught in time.”
Tariq Drabu is a dentist who is passionate about educating people on the dangers of mouth cancers. He said, “I have seen too many cases where people have developed mouth cancer and were unaware of it until it was too late. I am determined to do all I can to reduce the instances of this terrible disease. I believe all dentists should do what they can to provide the information and explain the dangers to patients. If people are aware of the symptoms and understand how to care for their teeth and gums, the instances of this horrific disease will gradually reduce.”
Tariq Drabu, Manchester dentist and highly respected post-graduate teacher and lecturer, closed by saying, “The study revealed that in most cases patients consulted their doctors three to four weeks after noticing symptoms of oropharyngeal or oesophageal cancer. This is too long. I believe more must be done to help people be more of aware of the early signs of mouth cancer, and prior to that, the signs of gum disease and oral health problems. My hope is that we can do more to prevent patients developing mouth cancer, as well as encouraging people to visit their doctors quickly. The study even recorded patients waiting for as much as 180 days which is shocking and extremely worrying. More work must be done to address this issue and find out why individuals are waiting so long before consulting a doctor. It is such a vital part of the fight against cancer, and it is the only way to ensure we can help our patients to remain healthy and cancer free. My staff and I already do all we can to ensure patients understand the dangers and symptoms of gum disease and mouth cancers. However, it is clear that as a professional body, we all need to do much more.”
