Taylor Morrison Announces Gilbert Educator as January’s ‘Teacher of the Month’
Gilbert, AZ (PRWEB) January 31, 2014 -- Taylor Morrison and KEZ 99.9 FM are partnering to give one outstanding Valley educator center stage each month during the 2013-2014 school year as part of the radio station’s “Excellence in Education” recognition program. January’s winner is Monique Pena of Charlotte Patterson Elementary School.
Pena will receive an “Excellence in Education” plaque from Taylor Morrison and KEZ 99.9, $99 and a prize for going above and beyond her daily responsibilities as to a teacher to ensure the success of her students.
In only a short time, parents of Pena’s students have already begun to see their children excel at subjects they’ve previously struggled in. Tami Profitt, a mother of one of Pena’s second grade students, said she nominated Pena because, “Mrs. Pena, a teacher of a 25 years, has shown us that she will not let any day pass that she doesn’t give 110 percent to her students.”
Profitt’s daughter had a difficult time with reading and comprehension, often distracted in class. With Pena’s extra attention, Profitt began to see an improvement in her daughter’s reading level after only a few short weeks.
“I know miracle is a strong word,” Profitt said. “But it literally feels like we are witnessing the miracle that only results from great teachers that believe in teaching to individual student needs and having a hand in their success.”
Pena utilizes the success of small groups, giving her students more one-on-one attention. Profitt’s daughter is now reading chapter books and has also improved in math comprehension and language arts.
“Second grade is a critical stage for children as they begin to build their educational foundation of reading, math and language skills,” said Bob Thompson, vice president of sales and marketing for Taylor Morrison’s Phoenix division. “We are honored to present the teacher of the month award to an educator such as Monique Pena, who has dedicated her time to ensuring the success of her students in these subjects.”
Previous winners have included Julie Paschal of Diamond Canyon School, Chris Whitehead of Freemont Junior High School, Cindy Cordts of Oakwood Elementary and Michelle Capriotti of Charlotte Patterson Elementary.
KEZ’s Marty Manning will surprise each monthly winner with a visit and present them with an Excellence in Education award. The visit will be broadcasted during the Beth and Friends Show, with airs weekdays from 5-10 a.m.
At the culmination of each school year the “Teacher of the Month” winners are invited to attend a banquet at The Capital Grille in Phoenix where $999 will be awarded to one special educator.
