Teaching recruitment agency brings Bollywood to Birmingham school
Birmingham, United Kingdom (PRWEB UK) 24 October 2013 -- Aspire People, a Birmingham based education and teaching recruitment consultancy, helped organise a Bollywood style “dance-off” to pupils from Hodge Hill Girls’ School. The event, held yesterday, was in celebration of the school’s annual Ethnic Day.
Sunita Randhawa, a senior education consultant from the firm, held a Bollywood dancing session to a group of 11-13 year-olds at the school today. Sunita showcased some of the dance moves that almost landed her a role in a major Bollywood blockbuster a number of years ago.
Sunita made it through to the final stages of a talent search for a film in 2003. A self-taught dancer, she was shortlisted to take part in the next round of auditions in Bombay but sadly dropped out of the line-up after learning she had secured a job at one of the supply teaching agencies.
Today, Sunita continues to practice Bollywood dancing in her spare time. After working with Hodge Hill Girls’ School to provide teaching staff she volunteered to share her experience and skills in a series of dance lessons.
Organised by the Modern Foreign Language’s department, Hodge Hill Girls’ School celebrates Ethnic Day every year as part of its efforts to educate students on the traditions of different cultures and ethnicity.
Speaking of the classes, Sunita said: “I work closely with the school, helping them source teachers and various other staff. It is so rewarding to be involved on a more personal level. As a young Sikh woman, I’ve always found Bollywood dancing empowering and think it’s a great way of expressing myself and my culture.
“Hopefully some of the pupils might be inspired to keep it up and we might get a Birmingham girl to pick up where I left and become a Bombay Bollywood star!”
Miss Daniels, head of Modern Foreign Languages at Hodge Hill Girls’, said: “This year’s Ethnic Day has certainly been a success and we’re pleased that Aspire People have got on board to help broaden the minds of our students. Sunita is a great role model for young girls and really captured the imagination of those taking part.”
