Washington, DC (PRWEB) December 20, 2013 -- International law firm Greenberg Traurig, LLP grew its patent litigation capabilities in Washington, D.C. by adding three new shareholders to its Intellectual Property & Technology Practice. The additions are in keeping with the firm’s strategic focus on expanding its top tier presence in this area. The team, Mark G. Davis, Stephen K. Shahida and Ronald J. Pabis, joined from Weil Gotshal. Davis joined as Chair of Greenberg Traurig's International Trade Commission Practice.

Davis’ practice focuses on intellectual property rights litigation and associated antitrust issues. He has significant experience representing clients before the U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC) and both district and appellate federal courts. He has been widely recognized by numerous ranking organizations. For example, Chambers and Partners has repeatedly listed Davis as a leader in both intellectual property and Section 337 issues both in its Chambers USA (2007-2013) and Chambers Global (2011-2013) guides. Similarly, he has also been recognized in the patent litigation and International Trade Commission categories of IAM Patent 1000 (2012-2013) and was named an “IP Star” in the District of Columbia by Managing Intellectual Property in the IP Stars 2013 list.

Pabis focuses on patent trials as well as licensing and other technology-related disputes. He has also established an impressive track record in Section 337 investigations before the ITC on behalf of both complainants and respondents and in arbitrating intellectual property disputes.

Shahida focuses on complex patent disputes. Prior to joining Weil Gotshal, he co-headed the Washington, D.C. Intellectual Property Litigation practice at McDermott Will & Emery. He has successfully handled numerous cases before multiple district courts, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, and the ITC.

“Greenberg Traurig is uniquely positioned to thrive in the new economy,” said Davis. “Steve, Ron, and I are thrilled to join a firm having both a large full-service intellectual property group and diverse practice areas and offices all deeply focused on serving clients at the highest levels of quality and efficiency.”

“We are pleased to welcome these world-class lawyers to our patent litigation team and to our Washington, D.C. office,” said Greenberg Traurig Chief Executive Officer Richard A. Rosenbaum.

“This continues our longstanding approach of carefully selecting top individuals and groups who will enhance our quality and fit our culture. We do not follow either of the two popular strategies of the day: traditionally elite firms holding on to high prices and consolidating or those trying to get very big very fast by mergers and vereins. We follow our own independent path that we believe is dictated simply by listening to our clients and our talent. Everything we do is about fulfilling their needs as we perceive them, not about building an empire or reaching a higher place on some chart.

“Therefore, we are about being among the top-tier of quality in our practice areas and, at the same time, being a business-oriented change leader with a business model designed to deliver extraordinary value and results to our clients while providing growth opportunities for our lawyers. We are about being one unified firm, with a culture of respect, trust, empowerment and active business collaboration. We are about being an unmatched U.S. platform, the world's largest and most vibrant legal economy, and a set of disciplined centers of excellence globally, which collectively provide the value proposition that today's clients crave. This is the blend of elements that increasingly draws fine lawyers and a wider range of discerning clients to our firm in the new world. World class quality and value are no longer mutually exclusive concepts."

With more than 180 intellectual property and technology attorneys and agents, Greenberg Traurig provides a broad range of patent, trademark and copyright protection and strategic counseling. Greenberg Traurig was named a “National Tier 1” law firm for IP Litigation, Patent Law, Trademark and Information Technology Law in the U.S. News and Best Lawyers 2013 “Best Law Firms” guide. The firm was also named a “National Tier 2” law firm for Copyright Law, Patent Litigation and Technology Law in the U.S. News and Best Lawyers 2013 “Best Law Firms” guide.

“The addition of Mark, Stephen and Ron bolsters our already world-class patent litigation practice,” said Scott J. Bornstein, Co-Chair of Greenberg Traurig’s Global Patent Litigation practice and Chair of the New York offices Intellectual Property & Technology practice. “Their vast experience representing clients before the ITC and both district and appellate federal courts strengthens our offering in this area, which is of critical importance to our clients.”

As noted by Rosenbaum, “these new additions to our team follow a number of other recent hires attracted by the firm's timely model in various practices, including corporate, tax, intellectual property, labor and employment and other areas. These include, among others, Carl Riley from Skadden Arps in New York, Dan Serota from Linklaters in New York, Chuck Birenbaum and Brad Marsh from Winston & Strawn in San Francisco, Dr. Jonathan David Ball and Richard Pettus from King & Spalding in New York, Kate Hutchins from Wilmer Cutler in New York, Rick Taché from Snell and Wilmer in Orange County, California and Kakoli Caprihan from Finnegan Henderson in Washington, D.C."
