Tech Electronics Reacts to National Segment on Fire Safety
St. Louis, MO (PRWEB) January 18, 2016 -- Tech Electronics, a leader in fire safety education, is taking action after a nationally televised segment claimed the reason new homes are burning faster, leaving residents little to no time to evacuate, is due to modern furniture. While the information stated is true, it fails to address the bigger issue: the use of lightweight materials in new construction is the primary reason fires are becoming increasingly dangerous.
“If an older home with new furniture caught fire, the occupants would still have more time to evacuate because the home is more structurally sound,” says Chris Wilhelm, Director of Construction for Tech Electronics. “Newer homes lack this structural integrity which is why the combination of new furniture in these new homes is so lethal.”
The use of lightweight materials is becoming increasingly popular, especially in shared spaces such as apartment complexes, dormitories, hospitals and office buildings, thus increasing the probability of loss of life in a fire event. In fact, some states prohibit fire services from entering buildings constructed of lightweight materials during a fire by requiring placards on the exterior.
This past year alone, Tech Electronics, a technology services organization, has educated over 300 fire marshals across three states on the increasing dangers and new fire safety steps to take to prevent loss of life.
