Technology and Addictions Expert from Elements Behavioral Health Speaks at the 17th Annual NEFESH International Conference in Long Island
Long Island, NY (PRWEB) December 18, 2013 -- On December 27, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., Robert Weiss, LCSW, CSAT-S, author, clinician, founder of the Sexual Recovery Institute, and Senior Vice President of Clinical Development for Elements Behavioral Health, will address the impact of digital technology on mental health, relationships and addiction at the 17th annual conference of The International Network of Orthodox Mental Health Professionals in Long Island, NY.
In a presentation titled, “The Effect of Digital Technology on Relationship Intimacy, Mental Health and Addiction,” Mr. Weiss will provide a thought-provoking look at the ways digital technology affects clinical practice and real-world social engagement among individuals, couples, families and communities. Mental health professionals, rabbanus and educators in attendance will learn about the ways technology has changed through the generations as well as emerging technologies that can help improve treatment outcomes. Mr. Weiss has a book being released in January 2014, titled “Closer Together, Further Apart: The Effect of Technology and the Internet on Sex, Intimacy and Relationships,” which explores the same topic.
“Digital technology, particularly the Internet, has had a profound impact on interpersonal relationships, mental health, and addictive online behaviors surrounding sex, love, gambling, gaming and similar Internet addictions,” said Mr. Weiss. “Learning about how these technological advances affect individuals, families and communities, in both positive and negative ways, will help clinicians more effectively address the modern-day challenges facing their patients.”
Founded in 1992, NEFESH brings Orthodox Jewish professionals and rabbis together to address the full spectrum of mental health issues affecting the Jewish community. Today, NEFESH has more than 750 members worldwide, including psychologists, social workers, psychiatrists, marriage and family therapists, chemical dependency counselors, and guidance and pastoral counselors, among others.
Mr. Weiss will be joined by Deborah Fox, LCSW, the former mental health director of Jewish Family Service of Los Angeles, who will be leading cultural sensitivity training at The Ranch rehabilitation center in Tennessee in January 2014. In line with The Ranch’s commitment to personalized, highly effective treatment, this training will enhance the program’s ability to serve Jewish individuals and their families with the highest level of cultural competence.
This year, the NEFESH conference will be held from December 26 to 29 at the Hyatt Regency Long Island and Wind Watch Golf Club in Hauppauge, NY. Attendees will earn continuing education credits and learn about the latest advances in mental health treatment from an impressive roster of internationally recognized experts.
