TECO Energy Management Team Receives Training
Washington, DC (PRWEB) February 27, 2015 -- TECO Energy, Inc. and Iron Workers Local 397 in Tampa forged a partnership based on training in January.
TECO Energy, Inc. and the Iron Workers have a lot in common. First, they place great emphasis on the training and development of its members. Second, the success of their business relies on forging partnerships to identify construction needs in the Gulf Coast of Florida.
“We have one of the best apprenticeship training facilities in Florida,” said Tampa Iron Workers Local 397 Business Manager Jack Jarrell. “In forming a collaboration with Tampa Electric, we showcased our safety and training program. In return, Tampa Electric offered attendance at POWER-GEN International in Orlando. The event focused on the latest innovations, technology trends and business strategies.”
Patrick Duffy, manager of project management and Rickey Steele, manager of construction at Tampa Electric and nine management personnel received instruction on what it means to be an ironworker, led by Apprenticeship Coordinator James “JT” Thomas.
Hands-on training included:
- Safety – ways to increase workplace safety performance and prevent workplace incidents
- Welding – brief instruction on welding, donning personal protective equipment, working
in weld booth
- Rigging and Cranes – training on lift plans and signing off
“Two separate 80-hour classes held four days a week for 10 hours gave Tampa Electric staff practical knowledge on the industry’s best trained, most productive and safe workers,” said Thomas.
