TEDxNJIT Event on September 29: “Urban Phoenix – Renewal and Revitalization”
Newark, NJ (PRWEB) September 18, 2015 -- A TEDxNJIT event will take place on September 29, 2015 in the Jim Wise Theatre on the New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) campus and also via an accompanying live simulcast broadcast available to viewers worldwide. The independently organized event, licensed by TED, is themed “Urban Phoenix – Renewal and Revitalization,” and will feature leaders from business, academia and the arts addressing a range of topics on the future of the city. Speakers will explore, for example, healthcare as a driver of urban renewal, the role of art and dance in the urban environment, new models for innovation, architecture and design, and the future of urban education. The event will bring together faculty and students to share their passion for new ideas and innovation. NJIT’s inaugural TEDx event took place in 2011.
“With the success of our previous TEDxNJIT events, we want to focus this year on ideas that will have an impact on the urban environment, both immediately and in the decades to come,” said Judith Sheft, associate vice president for technology and enterprise development at NJIT and the event’s co-organizer. “We have put together an outstanding array of thinkers and visionaries to discuss topics of interest to everyone, as we all try individually to make the world a better place.”
Speakers include Georgeen Theodore, an associate professor of architecture at NJIT and principal member of the Interboro Team, winners of a “Rebuild By Design” grant following Hurricane Sandy; Donald Sebastian, the president and CEO of the New Jersey Innovation Institute (NJII), who will discuss information as the ‘new electricity’; Tomas Gregorio, the senior executive director of healthcare delivery systems at NJII; Adesina Sampson, coach of NJIT’s Highlanders dance team; Michael Dixon, the general manager of IBM’s Global Smarter Cities Business; Taneshia Nash Laird, founder and CEO of Legacy Business Advisors; and Marylou Tibaldo-Bongiorno and Jerome Bongiorno, Newark-based filmmakers and founders of Bongiorno Productions.
The Highlanders dance team will perform during the event.
The event costs $30 per ticket for the public as well as for NJIT faculty, staff and alumni. Student tickets cost $15. To purchase tickets, register online at http://www.tedxnjit.com/register. Food and drinks will be available and are included in the fee.
TEDxNJIT follows other TEDx university events, including at Harvard University and Princeton University earlier this year. TEDxNJIT not only targets the NJIT community, but those at surrounding colleges and universities in Newark including Rutgers University, Essex County College, Berkeley College and Seton Hall University.
