Teen Author Publishes New Collection of Poetry
BEIJING (PRWEB) June 04, 2015 -- Teen poet Heidi Wong experienced a stage of emotional change when she left a summer program in Pennsylvania at 16 years old. She became more aware of the differences between a home that is physical and one that is psychological. In her new collection of poetry titled “Sixteen” (published by Archway Publishing), Wong uses this shift in perspective to express themes of nostalgia, loss, memory and mental health.
“Everyone goes through hardships, and through my poetry, I try to present my own perspective on the brutality of life in the rawest form,” Wong says. “I think my book will appeal to readers because the emotions and themes depicted within my poems are highly relevant – not just to myself, but to others as well.”
“Sixteen” is broad in its thematic scope; in addition to its major themes, it also examines complex family dynamics and the dichotomy between Wong’s feelings of acceptance at her temporary summer home, and feelings of isolation at her permanent hometown in China.
“I want to share my story with other people,” Wong says. “If they have had similar experiences, I want them to feel like they aren’t alone. I also want other young, aspiring writers not to feel limited by their age or feel as if they have to water down their writing to fit within others’ expectations.”
