Telcom & Data Introduces a Great Program: Scale Up Milwaukee, Developing Entrepreneurs for the Future
(PRWEB) January 21, 2015 -- “Going to the next level” is something people say quite often. It’s said in churches, sports locker rooms and team events, and just about anywhere people want to improve or achieve success. This is especially true in the business world and with entrepreneurs.
In business, stagnation, complacency or even over confidence can lead to the demise of a once great business idea, just ask Blockbusters. In business, “staying put” or “holding down the fort” is not an option, if success and profits are the goal.
Entrepreneurship is a really cool sounding French word meaning the process of starting a business or other organization. The entrepreneur develops a business model, acquires the human and other required resources, and is fully responsible for its failure or success.
The key word here is process. There are levels and steps that must be taken little by little before reaching the ultimate desired end.
Being a huge Green Bay Packer fan, one must notice how a football team tends to get to the Super Bowl. Usually they draft well after much study and evaluation, the players are coached, gain playing time and experience, get better with time, then ultimately if everything goes well, with a great team and a little luck become champions.
No matter how much talent is on the team, seldom does a team get to the championship with ease. It takes a community of players who have committed themselves to winning by gaining knowledge and studying the game.
The process for business to be successful is very similar to a football team. The culture of winning, proper coaching, structure and programs must be in place to foster success.
In Milwaukee, entrepreneurs have a great opportunity to be on a winning team.
Scale Up Milwaukee, developed by Daniel Isenberg, founding executive director of the Babson Entrepreneurship Ecosystem Projects, has developed a program based on previous models worldwide to this great city with the full support of Mayor Tom Barrett.
The program fosters structures, policies and cultures that encourage long term economic growth, development and prosperity through workshops and a series of events, and Milwaukee is the first community to develop an entrepreneurship program based on this model.
The long-term game plan for Scale Up Milwaukee is to create an integrated effort to impact six domains of the entrepreneurial ecosystem in Milwaukee: Culture, Policy and Leadership, Finance, Human Capital, Markets, and Supports.
The first phase of the project ran for six months, launching in April 2013. The goal of phase one was to create a broad awareness among public and private leaders and stakeholders of what to do, a commitment to do it, and a plan of action.
This coalition, along with many stakeholders, produced an actionable blueprint for Milwaukee that helped lead to a measurable increase in growth driven start-ups and successful scale-ups.
One aspect of an entrepreneurship ecosystem is access to markets. In order for entrepreneurship to grow and flourish, entrepreneurs need access to customers and marketing partners, particularly big ones. Scale Up Milwaukee conducted a workshop with eight large companies to help them explore how they might increasingly engage with entrepreneurs to enhance their own global competitiveness, whether via strengthening innovation, supply chains, access to talent, business development, or access and deployment of intellectual property. The workshop was attended by the CEO’s and C-level executives from eight of the regional publicly traded companies.
Telcom & Data, with the support and participation of the President of the company, Ricardo Trinidad, is fully invested in the success of Scale Up Milwaukee and has become what is called a Scalerator Participant to prove its dedication to this innovative idea.
This expanded Scalerator program is an intense 6 month training program for business owners and key team members who are active managers and who are also extremely motivated to grow their businesses. The Scalerator will started in October 24, 2014 and will conclude in March 2015. A core of the best faculty from Babson College (ranked for 20 years above Harvard, Stanford and others as #1 in entrepreneurship education) and other experts (local and international) will conduct hands-on, and practical workshop sessions to help business entrepreneurs kick off and sustain a more rapid growth trajectory.
Telcom & Data believes in taking things to the next level and also anticipates becoming a greater flourishing company through this incredible resource and has proven they want to serve the Milwaukee community better through Scale Up Milwaukee.
