Teleseminar Explores Low Dose Naltrexone, Underutilized Treatment for Autoimmune Diseases
Chicago, IL (PRWEB) March 04, 2014 -- Julia Schopick, author of the best-selling book, "HONEST MEDICINE: Effective, Time-Tested, Inexpensive Treatments for Life-Threatening Diseases," will be conducting a two-part teleseminar about Low Dose Naltrexone (LDN), an innovative but little known treatment that is helping many patients with debilitating autoimmune diseases.
The teleseminar will take place on Wednesdays, March 12 and 19, 2014, and special guests will include New York integrative physician, David Borenstein, MD and pharmacist Dr. Skip Lenz, who both have expertise using the LDN protocol for autoimmune disease patients.
Naltrexone was first approved by the FDA in the mid-1980s for drug and alcohol addiction. Around that time, Harvard-educated neurologist/psychiatrist Bernard Bihari, MD discovered that, at VERY LOW doses, this same medication stopped the progression of many cases of HIV/AIDS first and then, multiple sclerosis. With Dr. Bihari’s advocacy, LDN began to be used to help people with many other diseases that have immune dysfunction at their core. After 30 years, however, the use of LDN for autoimmune diseases is still relatively unknown by patients and many physicians, and convincing doctors to try LDN therapy for their patients can be a challenge.
According to author and seminar host Schopick, “The standard medications for autoimmune diseases are laden with side effects, often very toxic, frequently ineffective, and are extremely expensive. LDN is non-toxic, and costs less than a dollar a day. It’s surprising that most doctors don’t even know about LDN, much less prescribe it for patients with autoimmune diseases."
There are more than 100 known autoimmune diseases, and LDN is being prescribed successfully for patients who have a number of the common autoimmune conditions, including multiple sclerosis, lupus, rheumatoid arthritis, chronic fatigue syndrome, Crohn’s disease, fibromyalgia and Hashimoto’s thyroiditis, among others.
The two-part teleseminar is designed for people suffering from autoimmune diseases, who can’t tolerate the side effects of the more toxic medications, or who haven’t found relief of symptoms with previously prescribed medications or treatment regimens. Part 1 (March 12) focuses on the history and use of LDN, as well as information on why doctors are uninformed about LDN and reluctant to prescribe it, and how to explore the possibility of LDN therapy with physicians. Part 2 (March 19) focuses on communicating the goals of LDN treatment with physicians, informational handouts and materials, and success stories from autoimmune patients on LDN therapy.
