Tellus Design + Build Partners With Local Engineer for Mandatory Soft Story Retrofit Program
Los Angeles, California (PRWEB) April 27, 2017 -- To comply with the upcoming mandatory seismic retrofit program set by the City of Los Angeles, Tellus Design + Build partners with local structural engineering firm Greystone Engineering Group to perform soft story retrofitting projects from design to construction completion. Tellus installs these mandatory earthquake retrofits, coordinating with engineers throughout, to prevent future damage to multi-story buildings with open or weak front walls—inevitable in Southern California.
As of November 22, 2015, the City of LA published mandatory retrofit requirements to correct these ground floor unreinforced openings and structural flaws. “The demand for these services will rise as the deadline nears,” states Tellus Design + Build President Jesse Fowler, “and we are ready for it. Everyone’s going to want to get ahead of this; it’s the law.”
Under this new mandatory retrofit ordinance, structures prone to collapse are to be upgraded within a limited time period, which varies based on the type of construction. As an experienced structural and retrofit contractor, this presents an opportune time for Tellus to partner with Los Angeles structural engineers to perform these required updates. The partnership allows comprehensive, consistent execution of the retrofit projects.
The cooperation of local construction experts will mitigate future damage of structural, civil, and financial catastrophe. As property owners upgrade, their risk almost immediately declines. Soft story retrofitting applies to buildings with at least two stories of wood framing, buildings constructed before January 1, 1987, and buildings with open ground floors, such as ground-floor parking.
