Telrad and Unggoy Broadband Announce First-Ever Software-Only Upgrade to LTE
Lod, Israel (PRWEB) January 29, 2015 -- Telrad Networks, a global provider of innovative 4G wireless and telecom solutions, working with one of Iowa’s leading providers of rural broadband services, Unggoy Broadband, today announced that Telrad’s BreezeCOMPACT LTE solution was successfully enabled in a seamless LTE software upgrade on existing WiMAX infrastructure in the 3.65 GHz frequency band. This was the first occasion in the U.S. to demonstrate a smooth migration path from WiMAX to LTE based on a state-of-the-art, Software Defined Radio (SDR) solution.
The product’s SDR platform will allow Unggoy Broadband to begin delivering LTE capabilities to customers without an expensive, time-consuming and service-interrupting hardware replacement. Subsequent to the migration, a customer over three miles away who previously could not be connected due to trees blocking line-of-sight, was able to be connected with almost 80 Mbps of true data throughput. The Telrad BreezeCOMPACT LTE now allows Unggoy to deliver high-speed broadband to underserved towns in speeds that are as good, or better, than those enjoyed in populated markets.
"Ironically, we achieved this major milestone only miles away from where President Obama was discussing the need to make better rural broadband available, just a few days ago," noted Daniel Moore, CEO of Unggoy. "We are already doing just that in our underserved market area – expanding coverage and delivering high-speed broadband to the rural Iowan. This historic achievement wouldn’t have been possible without the help of Telrad."
"Unggoy put their trust in us, and together we completely redefined the business model for the fixed wireless market," commented Chris Daniels, Telrad's General Manager of North America. "Even more exciting is the fact that this is just the beginning. The radical, future-proof innovation offered by our LTE BreezeCOMPACT is unmatched by anything offered in the market today. It completely changes the CAPEX standard for small and mid-sized operators."
