TERI Campus Update: the US military is Set to Begin Building
SAN DIEGO, California (PRWEB) March 16, 2015 -- The 1st set of troops arrive today to begin construction of a university-like campus for individuals with special needs.
"We are overwhelmed with the support of the community who helped us spread the word and raise the funds to continue this collaboration. I am just speechless," says Cheryl Kilmer, TERI Campus of Life CEO and Founder.
The partnership with the military is through the Department of Defense's IRT program. The goal of the IRT is to provide real world training opportunities for our service members and units to prepare them for their wartime missions while supporting the needs of America's under-served communities. The selection of the TERI Campus of Life will save millions for the organization.
"This is the hope and dream of so many individuals and with the communities continued support we are making it happen!" says Kimmy Roberts, TERI's Capital Campaign Director.
When the campus is complete the site will consist of 10 buildings and over 100,000 square feet of education space. All 20 acres will be developed on the property in San Marcos, which currently houses the organization's therapeutic equestrian center.
Among the new buildings there will be an aquatic and fitness center, a music and performing arts center and an organic farm.
The collaboration with the US military will bring four hundred service members through the campus with the first group set to arrive March 16. Not only will this partnership help TERI and the San Diego community, this will be a unique opportunity for all branches of the military to work together on a single project. The members will come from all over the US and have the chance to learn about autism, special needs, and what programs are available to support these individuals.
