Term Limit Group 12 is Enough Reacts to Recent Reports and Urges Imposed Terms Limits for Congress
(PRWEB) February 27, 2014 -- 12 is Enough, a nonpartisan group campaigning for term limits, reacts to recent reports that for the first time in US history a majority of Congress members are millionaires and, despite low ratings, most are re-elected. Group urges pushing for Congressional incumbents who have been in office for over 12 years to not be re-elected.
“People are sick and tired of career politicians controlling Washington,” said Ian Clark, founder of 12 is Enough. “Now that Congress is made up of a majority of millionaires, the average American doesn't have someone like them representing them anymore.”
Recent article in CNN reports that for the first time in history, more than half the members of Congress are millionaires. Of the 534 current members of the House and Senate, 268 had an average net worth of $1 million or more in 2012 – up from 257 members in 2011. The median net worth for members of the House and Senate was $1,008,767.
“The blame can't just be put on career politicians,” says Clark. “The system is broken. It stops anyone trying to unseat an incumbent from winning an election. They hold the access to money and power. And there is no incentive for them to give their power up.”
Another report claims that Congress currently has a 12% approval rating, yet 90% are reelected. Clark says that the 2014 Congressional elections need to be a game changer. He says the American people need to take back the power of a few people who make up the political elite. Congress needs to share the power with qualified people with new ideas.
12 is Enough is pushing that Congressional incumbents who have been in offices over 12 years are not reelected.
