Terry E. Katz Receives Jack F. Derrickson Award for Outstanding Course Leadership
Malvern, PA (PRWEB) October 29, 2013 -- Terry E. Katz, CPCU, is the 2013 recipient of the Jack F. Derrickson Award for Outstanding Course Leadership, given by The Institutes. The Derrickson Award is presented annually and honors a teacher of insurance courses whose students pass The Institutes’ examinations at a rate higher than the national average over an extended period of time.
With 30 years of experience, Katz serves as vice president of training, quality assurance and claims at HMS Insurance Associates, Inc., in Hunt Valley, Md. She holds a property-casualty license and the following professional designations: Associate in Risk Management (ARM), Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC), Accredited Adviser in Insurance (AAI®), Associate of the Chartered Insurance Institute (ACII) and Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU®). She is a course instructor for The Institutes and is an approved continuing education course provider for the Maryland Insurance Administration Continuing Education Program.
Katz is a member of the Society of Insurance Trainers and Educators (SITE) and of the CPCU Society. She is also involved in her local community, holding numerous leadership positions with the CPCU Society Maryland Chapter, the Insurance Roundtable of Baltimore and the Independent Insurance Agents of Maryland.
“Terry Katz has displayed a personal interest in her students,” said Peter L. Miller, CPCU, president and chief executive officer of The Institutes. “Her personal commitment has motivated and encouraged them to not only complete their program of study, but also increase their skills and knowledge of the insurance industry.”
Each year, The Institutes provide for the Derrickson Award winner and a guest to attend The Institutes’ annual CPCU conferment ceremony during the CPCU Society Annual Meeting, to be held this year in New Orleans, at which the recipient is presented with a check for $250 and a Derrickson Award plaque.
This award is named for the late Jack F. Derrickson, CPCU, who served for more than 40 years as a grader of The Institutes’ examinations and for many years as a course leader. Derrickson, who passed away in August 2004 at the age of 92, funded this award to recognize excellence in course leadership.
