TESOL Announces 2015 President’s Award
Alexandria, VA (PRWEB) January 15, 2015 -- TESOL International Association announced today that Linda Darling-Hammond is being honored with the 2015 TESOL Presidents’ Award. Honorees of the award are individuals or organizations outside of TESOL that have demonstrated a commitment to English language instruction and education. Darling-Hammond will accept the award from TESOL President Yilin Sun via video during the President’s Keynote Session at the 2015 TESOL International Convention & English Language Expo in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
“There are few who are as strong and as capable as Dr. Darling-Hammond in using and analyzing research data and scholarship and in fighting for educational equity,” noted Sun. “Her achievements are a source of pride and inspiration to all of the TESOL professionals.”
Linda Darling-Hammond is Charles E. Ducommun Professor at Stanford University, where she founded and co-directs the Stanford Center for Opportunity Policy in Education. She was also founding executive director of the National Commission on Teaching and America’s Future and headed President Obama’s Education Policy Transition Team. Her most recent book, Getting Teacher Evaluation Right, provides guidelines and models for a research-based approach to teacher evaluation.
Each year TESOL’s president selects an individual or organization whose work for the field of English language teaching reflects TESOL’s values. Past recipients of the TESOL President’s Award come from diverse backgrounds and include The British Council, Hillary Rodham Clinton, UNICEF, and the Peace Corps.
