TESOL International Association Installs New Board Members
Alexandria, Virginia (PRWEB) May 01, 2014 -- TESOL International Association, the professional association for English language educators worldwide, recently installed four new board members at its annual business meeting held in Portland, Oregon USA. New board members serve 3-year terms beginning at the TESOL International Convention & English Language Expo. The 2014 convention was held 26–29 March. The association also installed Yilin Sun as its new president. Dr. Sun, who is a tenured faculty member at Seattle Community Colleges, will serve a one-year term.
Before installing the new members, Past President Deena Boraie gave special thanks to each of the outgoing members. “It has been an honor and pleasure working with these dedicated colleagues. They have contributed their time, energy, and expertise to help TESOL meet its mission.” Outgoing members of the Board were: Suzanne Panferov, University of Arizona; Diane Carter, Indianapolis Public Schools; Tim Collins, National-Louis University; and John Schmidt, Texas Intensive English Program.
Andy Curtis was installed as president-elect. Dr. Curtis received his Master of Arts degree in applied linguistics and his doctorate in International Education from the University of York in England. He started his professional life as a clinical medical biochemist in England working in hospitals before finding his true passions: teaching and learning, language and culture. He is currently very active in the area of online education through his work on the Master of Arts in TESOL offered by Anaheim University.
Other newly installed board members are: Deborah Healey, University of Oregon; and Aya Matsuda, Arizona State University. Ryuko Kubota, University of British Columbia , was also confirmed by the Board as 2015 Toronto, Ontario Convention Program Chair. Dr. Kubota will serve for a one-year term on the Board of Directors.
