Texas District Has Chosen NWEA’s Comprehensive Assessment System as Part of Their Five Year Strategic Plan
Tyler, TX (PRWEB) December 08, 2015 -- Northwest Evaluation Association™ (NWEA™) announced today that the Tyler Independent School District has selected the NWEA suite of assessments for use with over 15,000 students in Pre-K through high school. Tyler ISD is the largest district in east Texas with 28 campuses.
The implementation of NWEA’s comprehensive assessment system that includes Children’s Progress Academic Assessments™ (CPAA™), Measures of Academic Progress® (MAP®) and Skills Navigator® is a part of the district’s five year strategic plan that calls for the use of innovative methods that enable teachers to provide skills that match the talents and aspirations of each student.
“The computer adaptive nature of the NWEA assessments will allow us to more effectively target instruction and provide unique learning experiences for every child,” said Dr. Marty Crawford, Tyler ISD superintendent. “The diverse applications of the MAP data has allowed us to streamline our assessment program while giving us the added ability to track student growth and college readiness.”
MAP is an interim assessment that provides immediate feedback to teachers about student learning by pinpointing what students are ready to learn. As a computer adaptive assessment, MAP dynamically adjusts to each student’s level of learning, independent of grade level, and provides actionable data for teachers to make instructional adjustments. CPAA provides support for early learners in both English and Spanish. The assessment includes instructional scaffolding for students who struggle and skill-specific next steps for each child and classroom. Skills Navigator supports frequent progress monitoring to improve learning.
“We are pleased to be partnering with Tyler ISD as they implement strategies to streamline assessment while fully supporting their teachers,” said Matt Chapman, CEO of NWEA. “Our suite of assessments enable a single source solution for setting personalized goals for students.”
