Texas DWI: Know Your Legal Limits and Know Your Rights
Houston, TX (PRWEB) February 17, 2015 -- When pulled over, arrested, or convicted of DWI in Texas, it is important to know what to do to make the best of the circumstances. Knowing what is considered illegal and what to do in your particular situation is crucial to success in winning the case or having it completely dismissed.
The criminal defense attorneys at Scheiner Law have created a cheat sheet regarding Texas DWI laws http://www.scheinerlaw.com/texas-dwi-cheat-sheet/. The information they’ve supplied to Texas residents is intended to inform residents of their legal limits, offer a great deal of information regarding Texas DWI facts, and provide some insight on what to do if pulled over after drinking. Keep in mind that this is, by no means, a substitution for legal advice and should not be relied upon in a court case.
While most people know about how much alcohol makes them feel “drunk,” Scheiner Law has provided charts regarding what pushes individuals over the legal limit when it comes to blood alcohol concentration (BAC). Separated by gender, these charts show that women become legally intoxicated more easily than men. Every woman is legally intoxicated after four drinks (if not fewer, based on weight), while every man is legally intoxicated after five drinks (if not fewer, also based on weight).
Perhaps one of the most interesting parts of this DWI cheat sheet deals with how long it takes to sober up and the speed at which alcohol is metabolized. While it takes different amounts of time and various amounts of alcohol to legally intoxicate different people (based on age, gender, weight, etc.), all people metabolize alcohol at the exact same rate. So regardless of gender, weight, and BAC, everyone works alcohol out of his or her system at the rate of .015 BAC per hour. To figure out how long it will take to sober up, you can divide your BAC by .015, and the result is the number of hours it will take for you to become sober.
While this DWI cheat sheet is intended to help avoid unwise decisions regarding drinking and driving, it is also intended to educate drivers who may get pulled over after drinking. Scheiner Law recommends not answering any questions, do not agree to any tests, do not agree to any searches, and ask for a lawyer. While they also advise to not forcefully refuse anything or fight with a police officer, stating that you disagree will only help you in the end.
