Texas Pet Health Website Celebrates One-Year Anniversary
Austin, Texas (PRWEB) June 25, 2015 -- TexVetPets.org, the only free pet health website written and peer-reviewed by an association of veterinarians, celebrates its first anniversary today. Launched on June 25, 2014, the website is an education initiative for the public that was created by the veterinarian members of the Texas Veterinary Medical Association (TVMA) and its charitable organization, the Texas Veterinary Medical Foundation (TVMF). Ensuring the health of Texas pets through reliable information provided by veterinarians is the goal of TexVetPets, as well as of the organizations sustaining it.
TexVetPets.org’s articles are written by Texas pet health experts—veterinarians and licensed veterinary technicians. Adding to the site’s reliability, all articles must be peer-reviewed and approved by two veterinarians prior to being published. This emphasis on accuracy makes TexVetPets.org a uniquely trustworthy resource in an online sea of misinformation.
For years, many of the association’s members encountered clients mentioning strange, even harmful pet advice they had read while searching online. To counter the false information that had become so pervasive online, the veterinarians decided to create an online platform for educating pet owners with the same caliber of information they’d receive at the veterinary clinic. After years in development, TexVetPets.org became live online last year and is available to any pet owner with an internet connection.
“TexVetPets.org continues to prove its uniqueness and reliability as the go-to source for animal health and welfare education for the citizens of Texas,” said Aaron Rainer, DVM, MPH, a TVMA member who practices at Katy Area Veterinary Medical Group and the Animal Emergency Center of Temple-Belton. “Veterinarians in the state recognize the importance of public education and are excited to provide this accurate information that is specifically created for Texas residents and their pets.”
In addition to reliable, veterinarian-written and peer-reviewed articles, TexVetPets.org offers other fun and shareable features for pet owners. There’s the TexVetPets Gallery, where owners can upload a photo of their pet and potentially win the Pet of the Month contest. Owners can also pay tribute to pets who have passed on by creating a memorial wall dedicated to their memory or even honor a veterinarian who should be recognized for their outstanding work. TexVetPets also has had a presence at various statewide events, with TVMA members and staff speaking with Texas pet owners about the website and giving away free goodies and educational materials.
From timely concerns like the new strain of canine influenza in Texas to standard pet issues like fleas and heartworms, TexVetPets.org is the most reliable pet health resource on the web. Whether you’re typing an issue in the search bar or browsing topics by species (http://www.texvetpets.org/article_cat/dogs or http://www.texvetpets.org/article_cat/other-pets), you can be sure that the information you’re reading is going to help keep your pet happy and healthy.
