Texas Saves $443 Million Embracing Justice Reinvestment for Drug Charges
Miami, FL (PRWEB) April 27, 2015 -- Texas has saved $433 million by converting their public policies from arresting nonviolent drug offenders to providing drug offenders with addiction treatment, according to an article published by Nepr on April 8th. Several states, including Massachusetts, are considering adopting justice reinvestment policies to cut state costs revolving incarceration. Texas has formed community recovery programs to help redress rampant addiction among the populace. According to The Council of State Governments WA, ID, NE, KS, MI, PA, WV, NC, and, AL implement justice reinvestment programs. Justice reinvestment policies aim to reduce the rate of inmates who end up back in prison, reduce state costs, and protect public safety.
Harbor Village Detox is an inpatient medical detox facility treating victims of drug and alcohol addiction across the nation. Located in the hub of South Florida, and as a sister state to Texas, the instrumental directors of the addiction detox center have their own thoughts about justice reinvestment policies for Florida. A medical associate comments, “We have great resources like drug court in Florida, but the policies can be so much better. By adopting justice reinvestment programs Florida would be able to provide much needed treatment to a vast majority of the population here. These kids aren’t bad people, but they don’t have access to addiction treatment. Arresting drug and alcohol addicts doesn’t fix the problem, it just makes it a bigger one later on.”
According to The Council of State Governments, Florida is listed as a non justice reinvestment state, as are the surrounding states of Georgia and South Carolina.
A medical associate from Harbor Village Detox notes, “As we begin to shift into treating addiction with more compassion I believe there will be a public outcry for treatment programs as opposed to incarceration. Historically incarceration makes addiction worse, because jails and prisons often don’t have the necessary resources to provide inmates with medical detox or rehabilitation therapy. By incarcerating addicts we are demeaning public health standards when there are better options for us to pursue.”
Harbor Village Detox prides itself on providing victims of substance use disorders with the apex of inpatient medical detox. The drug and alcohol detox facility accepts patients from all over the nation. Harbor Village Detox’s medical staff supports victims of addiction 24/7 and treats the signs of withdrawal immediately as they arise. The treatment facility in Florida employs cognitive behavioral therapy during detox treatment to give patients a head-start and firm foundation for continuing drug and alcohol rehab treatment.
