Austin, Texas (PRWEB) October 24, 2013 -- Texas TMS Center, Austin, Texas, is proud to be one of the first in the United States to offer the breakthrough Brainsway Deep TMS Therapy. (Deep Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation). The dTMS system was cleared by the FDA treating Major Depressive Disorder, in January, 2013, and has many possible future indications in the area of neuroscience and brain health.
What is Deep Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation?
Brainsway Deep TMS - dTMS (deep transcranial magnetic stimulation) is an FDA-cleared, non-invasive medical treatment for treatment resistant depression for those patients who have failed a trial of antidepressants. It targets areas of the brain that are under active in people suffering from depression. The Brainsway dTMS device uses focused magnetic pulses to stimulate the area to restore it to normal function and decrease depressive symptoms.
Texas TMS Center offered surface TMS Therapy and now wants to provide the more advanced version – Deep TMS Therapy
To serve our patients better Texas TMS Center has added the Brainsway deep TMS system. We use the Brainsway system because it’s the strongest, most effective TMS system available. In clinical trials leading to FDA clearance the Brainsway deep TMS system was more effective in reaching deeper parts of the brain than the standard TMS Therapy system in producing remission from major depression.
Brainsway Deep TMS also has the advantage of treatment time duration being significantly less than that of standard TMS Therapy System. The standard TMS Therapy system offered treatment times of 45 min per day for 6 weeks. The Brainsway Deep TMS Therapy system has reduced that treatment time to an average of 20 min per day for 4 weeks.
What is the difference between Superficial TMS Therapy (rTMS) and Deep TMS Therapy (dTMS)?
Superficial TMS (rTMS) coils are limited to activation of only cortical brain regions, up to a depth of about 1.5 cm. Hence when treating depression with a superficial TMS system, the limbic system, which is related to mood regulation and is generally deeper than 1.5 cm, is only indirectly affected, through secondary processes involving cortical structures, which are directly activated by TMS and then affect the deeper limbic system structures.
The unique technology of the Brainsway® Deep TMS System enables direct non-invasive activation of deep brain structures. Deep TMS is a breakthrough in the search for a non-invasive approach for treating common brain disorders. Deep TMS uses a unique, patented coil design to produce directed electromagnetic fields that can induce excitation or inhibition of neurons deep inside the brain. The treatment is non-invasive, with no significant side effects, no systemic effect (in contrast to drugs), and no need of hospitalization or anesthesia.
Facts about Texas TMS Center:
• Texas TMS Center is the most experienced provider of TMS Therapy in central Texas. We have treated patients with TMS Therapy for over four years.
• Texas TMS Center has been a major US research site for the past four years for TMS Therapy.
• Texas TMS Center was a major research site for two years helping to obtain FDA approval of Deep TMS Therapy in the US.
What does deep TMS Therapy Treat?
In the United States, the FDA has approved Deep TMS for the treatment of Major Depressive Disorder. The Deep TMS System has received CE approval for several other psychiatric and neurological conditions.
