Tempe, located in the beautiful Sonoran Desert, is adjacent to Scottsdale and Phoenix. Its central location makes Tempe the ideal city for visitors coming to Arizona. Since 1947, Arizona has been home to Cactus League Baseball. Today, the Cactus League is comprised of 15 Major League Baseball Teams, playing more than 200 games in 10 stadiums this spring. The 2014 season gets officially underway on February 26.
Tempe Diablo Stadium, home to the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, sits in the heart of Tempe and offers visitors easy access from Tempe hotels. With mountain views and affordable ticket pricing, it’s become one of the more popular stadiums in Arizona for spring training.
Watch the Angels get ready for the upcoming Major League Baseball season, with home games against the Cubs, Giants, Rangers, Rockies and more teams. See phenom Mike Trout alongside superstar Albert Pujols play in Tempe before they head west to start the 2014 Major League Baseball season.
This year, fans can also visit the new spring training facility for the Chicago Cubs, located just east of Tempe on Rio Salado Parkway. Cubs Park brings the feel of old time Chicago baseball to the Arizona desert. The open concourses give spectators great views of the field from anywhere in the ballpark. Cubs Park will also feature a replica of the iconic Wrigley Field marquee.
Do you need more baseball? Fans of all ages will enjoy "Play Ball: The Cactus League Experience" exhibit located at the Mesa Historical Society Museum in downtown Mesa, Arizona. The exhibit includes more than 400 items, showcasing the history of Cactus League Baseball. Visitors will be able to see items from all their favorite Cactus League teams and players.
When the game ends, the fun in Tempe is just starting. Spring training fans can enjoy shopping, dining and sightseeing at a variety of attractions. Walk down historic Mill Avenue, where the tree-lined brick sidewalks have more than 100 local restaurants, bars and shops. Put on your hiking boots and enjoy a quick urban hike up the famous "A" Mountain or around Papago Park. Catch a show at Frank Lloyd Wright-designed ASU Gammage or go minutes east of downtown Tempe to Tempe Marketplace, an outdoor shopping and entertainment center. Tempe Marketplace is now home to Portillo’s, a staple in Chicago for hot dogs, Italian beef sandwiches and other American fare.
