The 44th Annual Historic Oakwood Candlelight Tour Ignites Raleigh's Christmas Cheer
Raleigh, N.C. (PRWEB) December 01, 2015 -- Oakwood residents prepare to deck their halls and open their historic homes to the public for the 44th annual Historic Oakwood Candlelight Tour on Saturday and Sunday, December 12-13, 2015, from 1 to 7 p.m. Triangle residents are invited to tour 12 of the area’s grandest homes.
Residents whose homes are featured spend six months getting ready for the tour, with many volunteers offering their talents and time for the event. The participating homes, dating from the mid-1800s to early 1900s, open their decorated doors to the public for the tour.
“Historic Oakwood’s Candlelight Tour is a treasured experience that dates back nearly half a century,” said Tour Chair Ellen Nightingale. “We offer individuals and families the opportunity to tour homes of all sizes and styles from different eras, all decked out for the holidays. What better way to get into the holiday spirit?”
Ticket holders can tour the properties at their own pace in any order, typically allowing three to four hours to complete the tour. Each home is staffed with docents who offer information about the rich history of the property and the historic community.
The Tour is held each year in partnership with the nonprofit Society for the Preservation of Historic Oakwood, this year Habitat for Humanity is also a partner.
Advance tickets are on sale for $25 through Dec. 10. Group rates available. Day-of tickets will be available at The Tucker House, 418 N. Person St.
