The Actor’s Studio of Orange County Hosts A Unique Fundraising Opportunity for a Rockin’ Television Series
Santa Ana, CA (PRWEB) November 20, 2014 -- This venture began two years ago when a group of multi-talented entertainers met at the Los Angeles comedy school, Second City. It was in these halls, so the speak, that Brett Duggan recognized the extraordinary talent of his fellow classmates and came up with an idea for a unique rock musical with an original score, The Untold Story of Indie Rock. Along with Duggan, Casey Schuckett, Kevin Stafford, Jason McNichols, ane Todd Risenmay performed this premium show on the Second City stage over the past year. The performers take the audience through the fictitious history of rock n’ roll music by paying homage to each style of rock music in the guise of a different band. In response to overwhelming feedback for the stage musical, Duggan and his cast mates (so dubbed the Not Normal Band) decided that they wanted to take the next steps in their journey toward mainstream success. From there, The Fireturtles: An Indie Rocumentary was born.
The television series will take the basis of the stage musical, a walk down rock n’ roll’s memory lane, and transform it into a comedic mock-umentary, that seeks to emulate the style of TV sitcoms such as Parks and Recreation and The Office. The plot follows a newly discovered indie band, The Fireturtles, and their harrowing journey with their so-called indie label. While desperately trying to find their “voices” as artist and making their first album, their label forces them to make a documentary of their experience. The television show will feature original musical that was inspired by the stage musical. Writer and leader of The Fireturtles, Brett Duggan, discusses the development of the script. “We discovered our characters through a series of improvisations: then I was able to script the show in a voice and rhythm that that everyone was natural playing.”
Owner of The Actor’s Studio of Orange County and director of the television pilot, Sonya Cooke boasts about the powerful and accessible nature of the script. “The script is awesome: fast, hilarious, beautiful music, and full of great characters that you will love,” says Cooke. True to her word, the script features overwhelmed rock goddesses, frustrated musical geniuses with inhuman falsettos, sage-like and emotionally sensitive drummers. The premise is unlike anything currently on TV, combining interesting and hilarious characters performed by multi-talented comedians with the zest of life and original music. “We have a great script but we’re going to need help to rent equipment, pay for locations, and hire the right professionals to make sure that the lights, sounds, and editing are all high quality,” comments Cooke. Though they have successfully campaigned online to fundraise for this project, the creators are seeking help from the public to make their fundraising goals a reality. “We are at 96% with a week to go. Our goal is to reach 100% and then go beyond it,” says Duggan, “This is a super low budget project, but we can raise money beyond our goal, we won’t have to beg, borrow, and steal as much to get it done.”
To help reach the public and celebrate this monumental project with The Actor’s Studio of Orange County’s community, they are holding a public reading of the pilot script. Audience members can be the first to hear the creative script, meet the actors/musicians, and hear a live musical performance of their original songs. The event will be this Saturday, November 23rd, from 2:00pm to 4:00 at The Actor’s Studio of Orange County in Santa Ana. Anyone is welcome to attend. The event is free and donations to the Kickstarter are warmly appreciated. Email info(at)asooc(dot)com, call the school at 886-519-6559, or visit the Kickstarter campaign at http://kck.st/1pWSJMc .
