The Anne Frank Center USA is Proud to Present Documenting Diaspora, an Illustrated Talk with Artist Julian Voloj Wednesday, March 12, 2014 from 6:30–8:30 p.m.
New York, NY (PRWEB) February 25, 2014 -- As part of Faith & Form, the current exhibition at The Anne Frank Center USA, the German-born photographer and writer Julian Voloj will present an illustrated talk exploring themes inherent to his work. For over two decades Voloj has documented Jewish diaspora and Jewish heritage sites in countries as diverse as Cuba, Lithuania, and Morocco. His portrait photography includes depictions of African-Americans who adopted Judaism in an attempt to foster identity; Hasidic Jews recreating Eastern European shtetls in the heart of Brooklyn; World War II veterans from the former Soviet Union, as well as B’nai Anusim reclaiming their heritage.
Documenting Diaspora is a unique opportunity to view the highlights of Julian Voloj’s remarkable portfolio, and to learn more about the diverse Jewish communities he photographs. The discussion will be followed by a Q&A and a reception. Program length including discussion: 90 minutes.

About Julian Voloj
The German-born photographer and writer Julian Voloj explores aspects of identity and heritage in his work. In 2003 Julian Voloj was awarded with the Second Prize at the Washington Post Annual Photography Contest. Voloj's photos appeared in various newspapers and magazines such as the New York Post, PresenTense Magazine, and the Brooklynite.
In 2007, Voloj was commissioned by the Forward for the book "A Living Lens", a book that Jonathan Safran Foer called "not only an amazing book, but an invaluable artifact and a work of art." His photographs were shown in various venues in the U.S. and Europe. Julian Voloj lives in New York City.
