The Arbor Treatment Center Success Story Airs on Dr. Phil April 8, 2014
Austin, Texas (PRWEB) April 08, 2014 -- To educate and give hope to people dealing with alcohol abuse, Dr. Phil McGraw will interview Todd H on Tuesday, April 8, 2014, about how he overcame his alcohol abuse problem by going thru the 90-day program at The Arbor Treatment Center (Austin, Texas). The Arbor specializes in long-term care, and Todd’s family also participated in their Family Program.
As a winner of CBS’ “Survivor”, Todd previously confessed to Dr. Phil in November 2013 that he was drinking pints of Vodka daily and relapsed from a previous 30-day residential program. On the Dr. Phil Show, Todd also shared that he was ready for long-term care to save his life. Todd’s family did an intervention on the show, and The Arbor’s Treatment Center was selected for Todd’s survival.
As of 2013, nearly 14 million Americans adults abuse alcohol or are alcoholic. Drinking is now the third leading cause of death in the United States alone. Nearly 2.5 million people worldwide die each year due to the harmful effects caused by drinking too much, including about 80,000 Americans. Dr. Brian Samford, Clinical Director at The Arbor, shares, “Our clients are in the midst of grave emotional, spiritual, and often physical pain upon their arrival at The Arbor. We recognize the severity of their condition and have established an environment of love and nurturance. Our commitment to each client is to provide the attention and direction required to allow for their first steps down the path of recovery.”
Because addiction is a disease that impacts everyone close to a loved one abusing drugs or alcohol, The Arbor also offers a three and a half day intensive Family Program monthly. Along with being held on a 67-acre urban ranch, Equine Therapy and Art Therapy are some of the unique qualities of the program provided to family members, partners, significant others and close friends.
Kay Vossler, LPC, LCDC, Director of Family Services at The Arbor, formerly a clinician at the Betty Ford Center explains, ”We approach addiction from a family systems perspective. We believe that addiction is a family disease and that it is necessary to treat the family as a whole. Everyone in the family is affected; the symptoms just manifest differently in the addict and the family members.”
When speaking to Todd H’s mother, she shared this feedback on the program results: “During my son's stay at The Arbor, he was given the help he needed by counselors who helped him understand that the addiction was not 'who' he was. Instead, it was a disease, preventing him from becoming all he was meant to be. His stay at The Arbor was a soul searching and deep rooted understanding, that gave him the tools he needed, to apply in his daily life. In the meantime, as a mom, I learned more about enabling and rescuing during the 3 day family therapy, than I did in a lifetime of raising children. The Arbor wasn't just for my son, it was for me. Together our family left The Arbor, wiping our feet, with a fresh new beginning of a knowledge that the insanity of addiction stops here... At the exit of The Arbor doors, and the beginning of a new tomorrow.... Baby footsteps... We can do this. Thank you Arbor... Xxx” ~ Shirley Keeler
Along with the Family Program, The Arbor Treatment Center supports clients in the completion of all 12 steps in the traditional 12-step programs. This process provides a solid foundation when clients leave The Arbor to reduce relapses. The Arbor also provides a continuum of care through seven treatment programs in the Austin area serving Texas, national and global clients.
