The Art of Revitalization - "Mega Mural" Going Up in Brunswick
Frederick, MD (PRWEB) September 10, 2015 -- Spearheaded by the City of Brunswick and its Brunswick Main Street program, the Brunswick River Mural is a community-sponsored initiative celebrating Brunswick's 125th year of incorporation and the Potomac River's historic and continuing significance to the city. Frederick artist and builder Anthony Owens and freelance mural and faux artist Jack Pabis are the creative twosome at the heart of the mural and its installation at the 3-story Horine Building at 2 East Potomac Street.
Owens explained that "'The Mega Mural' ... will be 45 feet long and at points, 10 foot high." Designed from Owens' hammer-cracked floor tiles and arranged in mosaic expression of Pabis' drawings, it will depict a sometimes-flowing, sometimes-swirling image of energy and forward momentum.
The waters of the Potomac and adjoining C&O Canal spawned Brunswick's Railroad Town/Canal Town heyday, and the city has long exercised its bounce-back muscle in response to that era's end. The Brunswick River Mural celebrates the "great trading place" meaning of the name "Potomac", as well as the legacy of promise and prosperity it bequeaths. A recent Frederick News-Post article reported that Owens "intends for his mural to celebrate the Potomac and to inspire the city to take pride in, and reinvent, itself." Brunswick Main Street's view is that "This captivating mural will help us honor our rich heritage and add to the continued rejuvenation and beautification of Brunswick’s downtown."
Formal dedication of The Brunswick River Mural is scheduled for Sunday, September, 27, the weekend just before Brunswick's annual Railroad Days Festival.
