The Art Research Center of Ritsumeikan University to Hold the Gion Festival Digital Museum Exhibition 2015
Kyoto, Kyoto (PRWEB) July 17, 2015 -- The Digital Archive Research Center for Japanese Cultural Resources at the Ritsumeikan University Art Research Center*, an establishment recognized as a cooperative research center since 2014 by the Japanese Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, is dedicated to performing research activities for the promotion of digital archives of academic-level Japanese cultural resources. In addition, the center leverages the human network that it has managed to build over the years with overseas research centers of Japanese culture in order to create a research community much wider than ever seen before. On this occasion, the center will be holding the ARC Week 2015 event as detailed below.
The first part of this event will be the Gion Festival Digital Museum Exhibition 2015, which follows past exhibitions from 2013 and 2014, offering general public displays showcasing ultra-high-definition computer graphics depicting the street parade of the festival floats at Gion Festival, the sounds and vibrations of the parade, as well as artworks from the Digital Museum research project, which allows visitors to experience simulations of the texture of ceremonial fabrics and the like, created using leading-edge virtual reality technology.
The second part will be the International Symposium, the very first international symposium organized by the Japanese Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology’s cooperative research center The Digital Archive Research Center for Japanese Cultural Resources.
The third part will be the Workshops, primarily targeted at researchers, where demonstrations of various technology created by the university will be showcased, covering topics such as the university's digital archive technology, development training for database search systems, and more.
*Ritsumeikan University Art Research Center: Since its establishment in 1998, its mission has been not only to conduct historical and social research and analyses of both tangible and intangible cultural properties, but also to record, organize, preserve and disseminate the center's research outcomes, focusing primarily on the arts, public entertainment, technology and specialized knowledge, with the objective of passing the culture that we hold today onto future generations.
