Our solution solves some of the most pressing challenges in network security and earning this certification helps provide assurance to our government customers that we are dedicated to meeting the standards they need in their environments.

Bricata, Inc., a leading provider of comprehensive network protection, today announced the immediate availability of its flagship product with Federal Information Processing Standard (FIPS) 140-2 validated encryption.

“This is another milestone and point of validation for Bricata’s comprehensive network security product that provides advanced threat protection and threat hunting capabilities,” said Bricata CEO John Trauth. “Our solution solves some of the most pressing challenges in network security and earning this certification helps provide assurance to our government customers that we are dedicated to meeting the standards they need in their environments.”

The FIPS 140-2 validation was granted after an independently accredited lab put the Bricata encryption module through a rigorous NIST-specified series of tests, managed by SafeLogic. After assessing conformance with the FIPS 140-2 standard, the module’s test report was sent to the Cryptographic Module Validation Program (CMVP), operated by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) and the Communications Security Establishment (CSE) of Canada. Their joint office confirmed compliance and issued certificate #3325, available publicly here.

By completing the FIPS 140-2 validation process, the Bricata platform is now eligible for procurement by U.S. federal agencies, including the Department of Defense. In addition, the standard is widely used in regulated industries such as utilities, financial services, and healthcare. Much of the market traction Bricata has achieved to date is attributable to these vertical markets.

“FIPS 140-2 is the single most important benchmark in the world for cryptography,” said SafeLogic CEO Ray Potter. “We’re very proud to deliver this validation quickly and smoothly for our friends at Bricata to ensure that they receive the recognition they deserve and every possible opportunity in federal and regulated industry is available to their team.”

Bricata distinguishes itself from other network security tools because it combines unparalleled network visibility, full-spectrum threat detection, true threat hunting, and post-detection actions together into a single, easy-to-use and easy-to-manage platform for enterprises who need comprehensive network protection. Bricata provides granular network visibility through a combination of SmartPCAP and the generation of rich metadata. It employs multiple detection techniques, to include signature detection, stateful anomaly detection, and artificial intelligence which simultaneously optimizes detection rates and minimizes false alerts. Bricata’s auto-populated, self-managed threat hunting environment provides you with granular insight into everything that is transpiring on your network, investigate alerts to fully understand threats and their promulgation on your network, and find hidden threats that didn’t trigger an alert. Bricata also gives you options to remove threats from your network and to provide valuable guidance to endpoint cybersecurity solutions to eliminate them even when they aren’t on your network.

The company has released four substantive product enhancements this year. This has included enhanced network metadata resolution; support for cloud and hybrid IT environments; new ways to prioritize security alerts; and intelligent packet capture – SmartPCAP – that automatically captures network transaction data before, during and after a network alert.

Bricata is venture-backed, having secured an $8 million growth round led by Edison Partners last year. Its last round included an investment and development agreement with In-Q-Tel, the strategic investor that accelerates the development and delivery of cutting-edge technologies to support the mission of the U.S. Intelligence Community.

The company has been cited by market watchers several times in recent years. For example, in 2018 the security industry trade publication, CSO Online named Bricata to its list of best security software based on an independent review of the product. In 2017, the news organization SDxCentral described it as one of “10 Security Startups to Watch” and a marquee technology analyst firm has named Bricata a “vendor to watch” twice since 2015.
