The Canadian Basketball League Hires One of the Youngest Executives in Professional Sports
Toronto, Ontario (PRWEB) December 06, 2016 -- The Wellington Basketball Club, a founding franchise in the Canadian Basketball League, announced today that Thomas Helsel has been appointed Head of Player Personnel for the team. Helsel has been serving in this capacity since July 2016 and has been instrumental in all strategy involving the screening and acquisition of players for the new team. Helsel, 20, is a junior at the College of Wooster in Wooster, Ohio and is one of the youngest executives appointed in professional sports.
“It was very clear, in my opinion, that Thomas [Helsel] understood my analytical testing and evaluation of player personnel,” said Butch Carter, founder of the Canadian Basketball League. “Most people cannot grasp the system I’ve used to evaluate professional basketball players. Thomas is brilliant at absorbing it.”
The league uses a unique analytical model to advance player development. The model, combined with a Tarzan test, helps identify areas of a player’s weakness and forces the players to immediately improve through interval benchmarking. The same system was used in the development of NBA players Vin Baker, Vince Carter and Tracy McGrady. This system is superior to current workout programs for basketball players and will allow professional basketball players to nurture professional dreams.
