The Center for Internet Security Supports Presidential Executive Order Promoting Private Sector Cybersecurity Information Sharing
East Greenbush, NY (PRWEB) February 20, 2015 -- The Center for Internet Security (CIS) today announced its support for President Obama’s executive order (EO) that was released last week, which promotes private sector cybersecurity information sharing through the enhanced use of existing, and development of new, information-sharing platforms.

Gilligan, CIS Board Chair said: “Successfully addressing the increasingly complex and global cybersecurity challenges requires effective partnerships between government and industry to foster enhanced preparedness and response efforts. The sharing of cyber related intelligence through the partnerships called for in the executive order is a core competence of CIS and a critical element to protecting our nation.”
Cybersecurity is at the forefront of the national discussion. There is growing recognition of its impact on our economic and societal well-being, and a heightened awareness that although much attention has been given to the issues, action-oriented solutions and effective results are desperately needed. The Administration’s support of a multi-layered approach, focused on effective collaboration between the public and private sectors, is critical.
The EO encourages the formation and widening of communities to share information broadly across regions, sectors and industries, and to rapidly respond to emerging threats. For this purpose, the EO calls for the voluntary establishment of Information Sharing and Analysis Organizations (ISAOs), which includes Information Sharing and Analysis Centers (ISACs), such as the Multi-State ISAC managed by CIS. The EO provides the platform for an open and collaborative approach that facilitates omni-directional communication for effective action, and can leverage the strong partnerships and information sharing already underway to help further bridge the gap between the public and private sectors. The EO also calls for the development of voluntary standards for interoperable information sharing between and among the government and private sector.
