The Classical Station Funds Chapel Hill Philharmonia’s Children’s Concert
Wake Forest, NC (PRWEB) September 24, 2014 -- The Classical Station WCPE is pleased to announce its fourth and final grant for 2014 made through the WCPE Education Fund in the amount of $1,250.00 to the Chapel Hill Philharmonia. The orchestra, based in Chapel Hill, N.C., and benefitting the surrounding area, is a non-profit community ensemble open to area musicians. Music director Dr. Donald Oehler, Professor of Music at UNC Chapel Hill, leads the orchestra in numerous concerts, including the annual Children’s Concert. This grant in the amount of $1,250 from the WCPE Education Fund will cover the costs of this year’s concert, to be held on October 26.
“Thanks to support from the WCPE Education Fund, the concert will bring opera to children as well as provide performance opportunities for aspiring operatic singers,” says Judy Konanc of the Chapel Hill Philharmonia. “The WCPE Education Fund grant covers our publicity, musicians, music, recording, and facility fee expenses for the ten rehearsals and the actual Mozart opera concert for children. Professor/conductor Donald Oehler's planning for the concert, collaboration with the UNC Vocal Department, and constant enthusiasm provide much of the spark that challenges the Chapel Hill Philharmonia and makes this Children's Concert so exciting. As lovers of classical music, we believe our annual children's concert is essential to fostering a continuing appreciation for fine music in audiences of the future… We thank WCPE for supporting this ambitious endeavor!” The concert will feature music from Mozart’s opera The Magic Flute. This musical collaboration highlights the importance of community involvement that both WCPE and the Chapel Hill Philharmonia share.
The moneys granted by the WCPE Education Fund are made possible by the tax-deductible gifts from its members. Members who forgo a thank-you-gift may opt in to donate 10 percent of their donation to the Education Fund, which is then used to promote the arts in the surrounding area.
