The Consumer Technology Association (CTA) & Lose It! Partner To Make CES the Healthiest Trade show on Earth
Boston, MA (PRWEB) December 22, 2015 -- The Consumer Technology Association (CTA)TM, formerly the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA)®, the owner and producer of CES, has teamed up with Lose It!, the leading app-based weight loss program, to make CES a healthy event for business travelers and tech lovers. Together, they will offer the first-ever CES Steps Challenge during the 2016 Show, January 6th-9th. In addition, through the Lose It! app, attendees will be able to monitor food intake, track their daily fitness activity, create personalized goals and connect their favorite activity trackers and fitness apps.
Attendees will be challenged to make their time at CES healthy by taking at least 10,000 steps, the equivalent of 5 miles, each day of the show. To participate in the steps challenge, attendees simply download the Lose It! app on their Android or iOS device. Once installed, a participant can open the app and join the Challenge from the Lose It! “MyDay” screen. Participants can also connect any popular activity tracker, like the Microsoft Band, Fitbit, Apple Watch, and more, and have their steps automatically count towards the challenge. Participants can track their results and compare them to other CES attendees through a dynamic leaderboard that will be featured within the Lose It! app. The challenge totals for steps, calories burned, distance walked and minutes spent walking will also be updated in real time on CESweb.org.
“Health and fitness technologies and apps are not just big on the CES show floor, they are also showing up on the wrists and phones of most of our attendees,” said Gary Shapiro, president and CEO of CTA. “The floor alone spans 2.3 million net square feet, and we expect to see a lot of steps tracked as attendees experience everything that CES has to offer. Lose It! provides the perfect platform to engage our connected audience, and motivate people to get moving.”
Traveling for work, and specifically attending trade shows, makes it difficult to stay on track with health and fitness goals. In a recent survey of more than 500 frequent professional trade show attendees, Lose It! looked at the impact of trade shows on attendees health, what causes it, and how to change it. Some of the key findings include:
• 30% of respondents report typically gaining weight while attending a show
• 48% report eating less healthy than usual
• 30% report drinking more alcohol than usual
• When asked what would help them stay on track with their health goals, 68% said better food options available at the show, 47% said fitness options at their hotel, 27% said healthy challenges such as a step challenge, and 35% said incentives such as prizes.
CTA is consistently recognized as a leader in great and healthy work places. Most recently, it was recognized by the Washington Post as a “best place to work”, and received the 2015 Washington SmartCEO’s Healthiest Company Award. As part of its pledge to creating a healthy work environment, CTA recently hosted a successful Lose It! Challenge for all employees.
“To many business travelers, trade shows represent an unhealthy event,” said Charles Teague, Lose It! founder and CEO. “Our partnership with CTA is designed to change that view and give people actionable steps they can take to stay healthy while on the show floor.”
CES is the world’s gathering place for all who thrive on the business of consumer technologies. It will be hosted in Las Vegas, NV from January 6th through the 9th, 2016. Charles Teague, founder and CEO of Lose It!, will be highlighting how Lose It! impacts consumer health at CES, speaking at both the Digital Health and FitnessTech Summits.
