The Culinary School at Eva’s Village opens 3,500 sq. ft. Training Kitchen in Paterson
Paterson, New Jersey (PRWEB) October 31, 2014 -- In 2005, Eva’s Village began an important project to provide affordable housing to the community. Five years later, that goal became a reality when the organization opened a 50 unit apartment building on Prince Street. A 3,500 sq. ft. section of the ground floor of this building was reserved for a social enterprise initiative; which after much research and planning, would become a Training Kitchen for The Culinary School at Eva’s Village. Providing job training skills to people in need garnered the interest of several donors and foundations which provided the seed money to build The Prince Street Training Kitchen location. This expansive location fully outfitted with commercial cooking equipment, will allow the school to provide training to 96 students each year. Students attending the school will enjoy a campus environment with a Classroom Technology Lab and Production Kitchen located at the Main Street location and a full-scale Training Kitchen located a short walk away at the Prince Street Location. Classes utilizing the expanded school space will begin in January 2015.
The Culinary School at Eva’s Village is a private vocational school certified by the New Jersey Department of Education and Department of Labor and Workforce Development. The five-month course is conducted in four-week modules. These modules include: Introduction to Culinary Arts/Breakfast Cookery/ServSafe; Buffet Prep/Short Order; Garde Manger/Pantry; and Introduction to Baking and Pastry Arts. The final module includes a four-week industry externship with post-externship placement services. “The opening of our Prince Street Training Kitchen provides an optimal learning environment for our students as well as ample growth potential for jobs in the culinary business initiatives this Training Kitchen will allow us to pursue,” commented Donna Marie Fico, Director of Marketing and Education.

About The Culinary School at Eva’s Village:
The five-month course provides fundamental cookery skills appropriate to basic positions in professional food preparation. Four-week modules include, Introduction to Culinary Arts/Breakfast Cookery; Buffet Prep/Short Order; Garde Manger/Pantry; and Introduction to Baking and Pastry Arts. Topics cover recipe and menu genres, culinary math, knife skills, safety and sanitation, and breakfast cooking. Students will also be coached in workplace readiness and life skills throughout the modules. As students advance through the modules they practice cooking techniques, including soup, stock, and sauce production, vegetable and starch cookery, and scratch preparation of salads and dressings. More advanced classes cover meat and seafood fabrication and cooking techniques, Garde Manger practices and baking and pastry cooking techniques and production. The final module includes a four-week industry externship with post-externship placement services.
