The Doe Run Company’s Chief Information Officer Presents at Regional Leadership Forum
ST. LOUIS (PRWEB) July 26, 2013 -- Sharon Gietl, vice president – information technology at The Doe Run Company (Doe Run), presented at the 2013 Society for Information Management (SIM) Regional Leadership Forum (RLF), held at Washington University. The Forum is a part of the Center for the Application of Information Technology (CAIT) and the SIM leadership course for rising information technology professionals.
Gietl shared ten key management lessons she has learned throughout her 35-year career to the class of 17 IT professionals currently enrolled in the leadership course. Participants include managers and C-level executives leading IT initiatives at a number of Missouri companies.
“Experience is a great teacher, and sometimes that experience can take years to develop,” said Gietl. “This course provides students with an opportunity to learn from others’ experiences in order to bring value to their organizations more immediately. I’m a strong supporter of this course and am pleased that one of our employees is enrolled in the program.”
As an executive at Doe Run, a natural resources company based in St. Louis, Gietl oversees the company’s IT department. “Continuous improvement is a part of our business approach and we value employee education and training for rising leaders,” added Gietl. “As a mid-sized company – we often encounter large-scale information needs, but must be nimble enough to address them with appropriate resources. Professional development opportunities, such as those presented in this forum, help us retain a bright and innovative workforce that tackles solutions for these and other challenges head-on.”
The RLF course is an interactive, engaging and motivating series of activities spread over a 10- month course. Participants gain tools, skills and contacts to help them develop their own leadership style and excel in the workplace.
