The Forum Group Announces Support for The Cooley's Anemia Foundation Annual NYC Gala

The Cooley’s Anemia Foundation (CAF) is a national non-profit organization that is dedicated to fighting thalassemia, an often fatal blood disorder. Children born with thalassemia often require life-long blood transfusions and face risks of serious complications including heart and liver failure and diabetes.
The Forum Group is proud to announce its support of the Cooley’s Anemia Foundation’s Annual NYC Gala which will take place at The Lighthouse at Chelsea Piers on Thursday, June 2, 2016. This festive and elegant event will feature dinner and dancing as well as a live and silent auction.
This year’s event will honor Sal Cassano, the 32nd New York City Fire Department Commissioner, and he will be presented with the Lifetime Achievement Award. All proceeds from this event will go directly to fund thalassemia research and patient care.
Frank Fusaro, the President and co-founder of The Forum Group began his support of the Cooley’s Anemia Foundation over twenty-five years ago, when as a member of the Columbus Citizens Foundation, he was honored at a fundraiser supporting CAF. Since that year, he conceived and has chaired a New York based annual Gala which has now raised over six million dollars in the fight against this always fatal blood disorder.
At his first event for the Foundation, Frank spoke with parents of children who suffered from this terrible disease and was deeply moved by a three year old child afflicted with thalassemia that was put into his arms that night. Years later he met that child again, now a grown woman, practicing as a nurse. Unfortunately, not all children afflicted with thalassemia survive into adulthood, but through funding and research, there is hope that there will be more children that will grow into adulthood, like this particular little girl.
