The Founder of Denver’s Grass Station Cannabis Dispensaries Calls on Facebook to Rethink Its Policies, after Facebook Closes Some Dispensary Pages
Denver, Colorado (PRWEB) February 18, 2016 -- The founder of one of Colorado’s oldest and largest recreational marijuana dispensaries is calling on Facebook to rethink its Community Standard policies, following news that the social network has closed down the Facebook pages of legal cannabis businesses in at least six states.
According to NBC News, Facebook has shut down at least a dozen pages belonging to legal marijuana businesses in six states over the past several weeks. In an email to NBC, a Facebook spokesperson said the pages in question had been removed from the network “for violating our Community Standards,” which outline what is and is not allowed on Facebook.
“It’s time for Facebook to realize that it’s on the wrong side of history when it comes to its current regulations regarding the legal marijuana sector,” says Ryan Fox, CEO of The Grass Station dispensaries in Denver
“Facebook is acting as though it’s unaware of what’s been happening over the past several years,” he adds, “that there are thousands of legal and licensed cannabis dispensaries, grow operations and other pot-related companies all across America.”
Fox also points to Fortune Magazine, which recently said it was “time to take America’s legal marijuana market seriously.” The magazine also quoted research from The Arcview Group, that legal cannabis sales reached $5.4 billion last year and are expected to increase by another 25 percent this year.
“Legal cannabis has become a multi-billion-dollar industry in just two years,” he notes. “Its acceptance is growing nationally, on a corporate and grassroots level, and honestly I’m amazed we’re still getting pushback from Facebook and some other online companies.”
Fox cautions Facebook that cannabis consumers have online alternatives, such as Leafly and The WeedLife Network, when it comes to social media outlets that are not only cannabis-friendly but actually welcoming of marijuana companies, organizations and enthusiasts.
“It’s important that Facebook to take a hard look at its policies and to reconsider them,” Fox adds.
