The Georgia O’Keeffe Museum Announces Mayo Clinic Lecture on Artist’s Approach to Health and Wellness
Santa Fe, New Mexico (PRWEB) October 24, 2013 -- The Georgia O’Keeffe Museum is pleased to announce that Jackie M, the Museum’s director of education and public programs, has been invited to give a lecture at Mayo Clinic in Scottsdale, Arizona titled “Georgia O’Keeffe: Filling a Space in a Beautiful Way.” The lecture will be presented on November 15, 2013, the anniversary of Georgia O’Keeffe’s birthday.
By examining O’Keeffe’s life, work and aesthetic, as illustrated by her personal history and images, the lecture will explore the many ways O’Keeffe valued and practiced a healthful approach to life. Jackie M will trace O’Keeffe’s artistic development from an East Coast modernist to an independent woman who sought inspiration, refuge and personal rejuvenation of spirit through an immersion in the landscapes of the west. O’Keeffe’s philosophy of beauty in art will be discussed at length, as the notion of beauty was central to O’Keeffe’s objective of creating art that evoked harmony, a characteristic experienced by those in a state of wellness.
“Georgia O’Keeffe lived over 98 years,” said Jackie M, Georgia O’Keeffe Museum director of education and public programs. “She was not only a groundbreaking artist, but an outstanding example of resiliency and longevity which comes from an awareness of how to live healthy and fully.”
The lecture is presented by the Mayo Clinic’s Center for Humanities in Medicine on November 15, from noon to 1:00pm in the Ashton B. Taylor Auditorium. It is delivered in conjunction with the exhibition, “Georgia O’Keeffe in New Mexico: Architecture, Katsinam, and the Land” currently on view at the Heard Museum in Phoenix, Arizona.
Patients, family members, students, staff, and members of the community are invited to attend. For more information or to RSVP, please contact Humanities in Medicine at 480.301.4648 or HumanitiesAZ(at)mayo(dot)edu.
