The Gillespie Group Completes Landmark AcryliCon® Flooring Project
East Brunswick, NJ (PRWEB) May 06, 2015 -- The Gillespie Group recently achieved a project milestone with the installation of 80,000 square feet of AcryliCon® flooring at the newly constructed Gateway ShopRite in Brooklyn, NY, one of 13 ShopRite stores owned by Glass Gardens, Inc. This currently ranks as the largest AcryliCon® installation project in the United States.
In selecting both the flooring material and the installer, ShopRite considered a number of vital criteria, including performance, reliability and reputation. All three criteria were equally important for ShopRite’s floor environment, which is impacted by thousands of customers guiding grocery-filled shopping carts up and down the store’s aisles every day.
“Certainly, volume of traffic in a supermarket presents a challenge to the durability of a flooring surface over which all those wheels are turning. The AcryliCon® resinous coating that The Gillespie Group installed in the spring of 2014 is more than up to meeting that challenge,” says Greg Polischuk, Gillespie Group Sales Representative Foreman for AcryliCon®.
Acrylicon has a number of unique properties that contribute to its superior performance. It is 100% nonporous, making it completely impermeable to water and other liquids. With an estimated lifespan of 30 years, AcryliCon® is both easy to clean and keep clean. It penetrates deep into the concrete and forms a chemical bond that assures complete adhesion. This unique resinous flooring system is naturally slip-resistant. And because AcryliCon® does not lose plasticizers, it does not yellow, crack or fade over time.
Prior to the start of the Gateway project, a ShopRite executive went on a fact-finding visit to England and toured several supermarkets with AcryliCon® floors; some of them had been in use for well over 30 years. A few years earlier, The Gillespie Group performed several smaller AcryliCon® installations at Glass Gardens’ ShopRite McDonald Avenue store, which included meat and processing rooms. Based on the positive results of these installations, the decision to specify AcryliCon® and work with The Gillespie Group for the larger Gateway ShopRite installation was made.
The fast curing speed of AcryliCon® enabled The Gillespie Group to work with the other contractors to develop a plan of action to meet the ShopRite at Gateway store’s aggressive completion schedule. “After meeting with the other contractors, we decided on an installation approach that would divide the store in half,” Polischuk explains. “We worked on one half while other contractors performed work on the other half, and then we switched. Because of the experience of our team, and the fact that AcryliCon® cures so quickly, we were able to stay on schedule and enable the other trades to do so as well.”
The Gillespie Group used various colors to differentiate areas of the store, and several different AcryliCon® systems to match the performance requirements of each area. In certain areas, for example, the AcryliCon® Décor System was used. This coating is ideal for wet or heavily abraded areas where hygiene and cleanliness are a concern, such as entryways and exits, commercial kitchens and seafood and meat prep.
In addition to AcryliCon®, The Gillespie Group also installed other types of flooring in areas that did not require the same high performance properties of the resinous system, as well as carpeting in the corporate office areas. “Because of our broad range of product knowledge and installation expertise, we were able to act as a single source flooring solution for the entire project,” says Polischuk.
Upon the project’s completion, Glass Gardens invited executives from Wakefern Food Corporation, the retailer-owned cooperative of which Glass Gardens is a member, and other ShopRite representatives, for a first-hand evaluation of the new flooring. Glass Gardens’ new Brooklyn Navy Yard store, their fourteenth location, is currently under construction. “We look forward to supporting Glass Gardens with AcryliCon® again on their newest location,” added Polischuk.
