The Hackaday Prize Sends a Hardware Hacker to Space
Pasadena, CA (PRWEB) April 28, 2014 -- SupplyFrame, a company dedicated to helping people build better hardware products faster, is launching The Hackaday Prize, a challenge to the global hardware community to change their world by creating open connected devices. The call for competition entries is now open.
The Hackaday Prize boasts the richest and most compelling prize pool ever available to hardware hackers. The grand prize winner will receive a trip to space on their carrier of choice, or US$196,418 cash. Other prizes include team skydiving, an all-expense paid trip to the Akihabara electronics district in Japan, and essential hardware hacking tools such as milling and tooling machines and 3D printers.
“We launched The Hackaday Prize because we want to see the next evolution of hardware happen right now, and we want it to be open,” said Mike Szczys, Managing Editor of Hackaday.com.
In keeping with The Hackaday Prize’s community focus, the following hardware hacking notables have been confirmed as judges:
Andrew “Bunnie” Huang, Ronin, @bunniestudios
Jack Ganssle, The Ganssle Group, ganssle.com
Joe Grand, Grand Idea Studio, @joegrand
Sprite_TM, Spritesmods.com, @SpritesMods
Limor “Ladyada” Fried, Adafruit, @adafruit
Dave Jones, eevblog.com, @eevblog
Ian Lesnet, Dangerous Prototypes, @DangerousProto
Elecia White, Logical Elegance, @logicalelegance
"One of the reasons I got my start in embedded systems development was because of a contest I entered when I was in college,” said Bunnie Huang. “I hope this contest will encourage more engineers to 'get out the hack' and build more open hardware!"
Preliminary submissions via Hackaday Projects are being accepted now through June 28, 2014. The Hackaday Prize welcomes entries from contestants over 13 years of age.
