The Harwood Institute and United Way Worldwide to Host National Lab for Change Agents
Bethesda, MD (PRWEB) November 20, 2013 -- T he Harwood Institute for Public Innovation, together with United Way Worldwide, will host a three-day learning program starting Dec. 10 near Washington, D.C. to help leaders from across the country more effectively tackle public problems and improve communities.
The event marks the third time The Harwood Institute has partnered with United Way Worldwide – the largest privately funded nonprofit – to produce the national Harwood Public Innovators Lab.
“Community is a common enterprise. We can’t go it alone,” said Rich Harwood, founder and president of the Bethesda, Md.-based Harwood Institute. “We started the Lab because we know that if we’re going to make progress on the issues facing this country, we need more public innovators – people with the know-how to drive change and make communities work.”
The lab will take place in Alexandria, Va. at the Mary M. Gates Learning Center, 701 North Fairfax St. For more information and to sign up, click here or contact Jessica Badger of United Way Worldwide at Jessica.badger(at)unitedway(dot)org or 703-836-7112.
"When United Ways authentically engage people in communities something amazing happens,” Mike Fandey, Vice President, Learning and Conferencing, United Way Worldwide said. “A new energy and potential is untapped and our ability to catalyze community level change is multiplied. There’s no secret to untapping this potential but it requires instilling a discipline across their work. We’re proud to again sponsor the Harwood Public Innovators Lab to help community leaders build this discipline and open up new pathways for creating lasting community change.”
The Harwood Institute is a national nonprofit that teaches and coaches people and organizations to solve pressing problems and change how communities work together.
United Way Worldwide is the leadership and support organization for the network of nearly 1,800 community-based United Ways in 41 countries and territories.
