The healing benefits of pet therapy
LONDON (PRWEB) March 15, 2016 -- Children who live with Specific Learning Difficulties, such as Dyslexia, are often embarrassed to seek help for their special needs. Growing up with her own case of Dyslexia, author A.L. Tayler was able to overcome the disorder with help from her affectionate pony, Smokey.
In her new book, “Smokey and the Mystery of Rabbitina,” Tayler shares the adventures of three friends, Portia a Persian cat, Balou a Hungarian Vizla dog and Smokey a Welsh Mountain pony. The three friends are recruited to the far off island of Rabbitina, where they must rescue the rabbits who inhabit the island. Throughout their adventures, the friends demonstrate the importance of loyalty and unconditional love during trying times.
“I, myself, suffer with Dyslexia, Dyspraxia and Dyscalculia,” said Tayler. “I know how hard it is for anyone, particularly children, to cope with the challenges reading and writing can bring. I have written the stories simply and carefully in order to encourage them to read and have pleasure in doing so.”
The book’s character, Smokey, is based on author A.L. Tayler’s real-life pet pony. Smokey was known to wear sunglasses in their garden, which has inspired children on multiple occasions to wear their own glasses. Tayler hopes “Smokey and the Mystery of Rabbitina” will convey to children the help and comfort animals can provide.
“Having lived with Specific Learning Difficulties I will always have an empathy with children who also cope with them,” Tayler concluded.
