The Heart Institute and 2 BigHearts Provided Screenings and Educational Forums on Heart Health
Staten Island, New York (PRWEB) March 05, 2014 -- As part of Heart Month, The Heart Institute at Staten Island University Hospital and 2 BigHearts, a non-profit organization focused on raising awareness on heart health and disease prevention, offered free screenings and educational forums for women on February 27th, 2014.
The Women’s Heart Event took place in the Regina M. McGinn MD, Education Center where women had the chance to receive a series of screenings including A1C HGB blood tests, Ankle Brachial Index, and Electrocardigoram Screen (EKG) as well as Echo Screen (if recommended by cardiologist). With heart disease being the No. 1 killer of women, which is more deadly than combining all cancers, The Heart Institute and 2 BigHearts wanted to bring the proper heart health education and screenings that could determine asymptomatic heart diseases. “To have all these test done prevents the risk of something happening without knowing,” expressed Staten Island resident, Dianne Cedeno. Residents from all five boroughs and also New Jersey, attended the event.
The educational forums included Suzanne Steinbaum DO, Cardiologist & Director of Women and Heart Disease at Lenox Hill Hospital – North Shore-LIJ Health System, as well as Staten Island University Hospital Director of Cardiology, Dr. Thomas Costantino, Associate Chairman of Interventional Cardiology, Dr. Frank V. Tamburrino, and electrophysiologist, Marcin Kowalski. Forums focused on the importance of heart disease prevention for women.
The 2 BigHearts Foundation is a non-profit organization founded in 2005 by Jim Clarke after he lost his wife and her sister on the same day, from the same undiagnosed heart condition known as cardiomyopathy. 2 BigHearts has successfully raised funds to provide more than 1,800 comprehensive heart screenings for women. “It is a pleasure and honor to be partners with Staten Island University Hospital and Dr. McGinn. They are leaders and we know that together we will make all women more aware and healthier” shared Jim Clarke.
